K-16: "Seen Fast, Acted Fast: Diagnostic Imaging in Acute Situations"
Beschrijving
Dag 1 - 24/03/2026 ~ 9u tot 17u (zal in het Engels onderwezen worden)
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in Dogs and Cats: Thorax, Abdomen & Heart
This continuing education session offers a practical and case-oriented introduction to Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in canine and feline patients. The focus lies on the use of ultrasound as a rapid diagnostic tool in emergency and critical care settings, based on binary questions.
Topics include:
- Thoracic ultrasound: recognizing pleural and pulmonary abnormalities such as pleural effusion, pneumothorax, and interstitial–alveolar patterns.
- Abdominal ultrasound: identifying free fluid, assessing organ abnormalities, and using ultrasound to support acute clinical decisions.
- Cardiac ultrasound: evaluating global cardiac function, pericardial effusion, and volume status using focused echocardiographic techniques.
The session will provide clear protocols, image examples, and interpretation tips to help integrate POCUS into your daily clinical reasoning — even without extensive ultrasound experience. The morning will focus on theory, and in the afternoon we'll put that knowledge into practice during a practical session.
This session is ideal for veterinarians working in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, or general practice who want to strengthen their theoretical understanding of bedside ultrasound.
Please bring your own dog.
