Steven Verberckmoes After completing the studies in biochemical engineering in 1997 I started the investigation of the effect of strontium on the bone development and mineralization at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. On this topic I obtained my PhD in medical sciences in 2005. From 2005-2008 I took the position as post-doctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp in the department of pathophysiology leading the research on the ultrastructural characterization of the mineral phase in various pathologic calcified tissues.
From 2008-2015 I joined Umicore (a leading materials technology company) as toxicologist where I am leading the scientific development of regulatory dossiers of (metal-containing) chemicals together with my toxicology and regulatory affairs team in the R&D department.
Since January 2016 I moved to the Umicore Corporate EHS department in the Sustainable Value Chain team where I am responsible for the toxicological (risk) assessments and REACH complicance process for the Umicore group.
In this role I am part of the scientific working groups several REACH metal consortia and technical working groups of Eurometaux.
