Prof. dr. Anouck Haverbeke qualified as a veterinarian from Ghent University (Belgium) in 2001 and defended my thesis about horses’ welfare at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Subsequently I obtained a PhD in Ethology at the University of Namur (Belgium) in 2009. Our results have shown that positive training improves military dog’s welfare and performance. Since 2013, I am EBVS© European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine (ECAWBM-BM). In 2021, I have been nominated Professor in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine at the University of Ghent. Actually, I am the Vice-President of the European College in Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine, as well as a member of different Veterinarian Associations in Animal Behaviour (ECAWBM, ESVCE, VDWE, SFEV) and in Natural Integrative Medicine (Complevet). Next to conducting veterinary behavioural consultations at Vet Ethology, I am teaching animal behaviour in collaboration with different institutions such as Ghent University (Belgium), Odisee University College (Belgium: International Postgraduate Course in Companion Animal Behaviour and Welfare of Odisee University College), Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire Alfort (France: Postgraduate Course in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine), and for private institutes such as Formavet, Vettube (Belgian companies for veterinarian continuous education), Iforec (French school of osteopathy for animals). I am a frequent lecturer in Belgium and abroad on the topic of Animal Behaviour and human-animal interactions. The current teaching and research projects include (1) effect of positive training methods on dogs and horses, (2) the effect of olfactory enrichment with essential oils on the welfare of dogs, horses, cats and rabbits, (3) the influence of different housing conditions on the welfare of horses, (4) grief in dogs. Some of these research projects are conducted in collaboration with the Salto research group, Agro- and Biotechnology from Odisee University College.
