The annual VSC Veterinary Education Symposium was established by agroup of enthusiastic veterinary educators working in vet schools in the UKand Dublin. The symposium takes place over two days during the summer.

It rotates around the schools and aims to be an engaging way for veterinaryeducators to share ideas and innovations for teaching undergraduate andpostgraduate vets and allied professionals.The symposium has a friendly and inviting atmosphere in which to shareideas, innovations, research and best practice in veterinary education. Invitedkeynote speakers are intended to be informative and stimulating. We inviteshort communications, posters and workshops. Posters are also beingdisplayed throughout the conference. Workshops are intended to be interactiveand cover a wide variety of topics. Networking opportunities are emphasised.The symposium welcomes a wide range of delegates including veterinaryeducationalists, clinicians, academics, veterinary students, practitioners andresearchers from across the globe!

Continuing education at the workplace has seen increasing demand as acrucial means of acquiring the requisite professional knowledge and skills.Electronic Portfolios (e-portfolios) for workplace training provide a globalview of each trainee’s progress but offer no dynamic feedback to exploit therich learning assessment data that could be analysed to support responsiveadaptation for more efficient and rewarding training.The WATCHME project aims to improve workplace-based feedback andassessment and professional development by means of learning analytics. Itaims to solve the efficiency and quality problems of workplace-based feedbackand assessment by means of an electronic portfolio system, that is enhancedwith i) student models that monitor the learners’ competency development, ii) a

Just-in-Time feedback module, and iii) visualisation tools that inform learners,teachers and institutes just in time as well as on an analytical level. The projectstructure follows an iterative approach from understanding the user´s needsand context to the specification of requirements, the development and test ofoperational prototypes and finally to a tool improving LA and workplace–basedfeedback.WATCHME effectively deploys Learning Analytics (LA) tools to deliverpersonalised learning; supporting learner empowerment, enhanced Quality-of-Experience, flexibility and mobility plus efficiency gains through workplace-based feedback and assessment.
