➢ EDUCATION 22.01.1997 PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, UGent, “Methodology for the determination of residues of some tetracyclines in food products from animal origin”, Prof. dr. C. Van Peteghem 1992-1996 FWO doctoral fellow (aspirant), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ghent University 1989-1992 Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (magna cum laude), Ghent University 1987-1989 Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (magna cum laude), Ghent University ➢ CURRENT AND PREVIOUS POSITIONS 2014-present Full professor and since 2017 director of the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University 2010-2014 Associate professor, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University 2004-2010 Assistant professor, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University 1997-2004 Post-doctoral fellow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University ➢ ACADEMIC EXPERTISE My research in pharmacology and toxicology focuses on in vivo ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) processes, pharmaco- and toxicokinetic modeling, residues and safety assessment of mycotoxins and drugs in several animal species, including a translational piglet model for preclinical paediatric drug research. Our laboratory is recognized for the analysis of small organic molecules (drugs and (myco)toxins) in many types of biological, food, feed and environmental matrices, using (U)HPLC-MS/MS and UHPLC-HRMS. Our test facility is the only university-based OECD GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) compliant laboratory in Flanders. The past 10 years, our group developed innovative in vivo models for efficacy and safety testing of mycotoxin mitigation strategies, appropriate biomarkers for mycotoxin exposure and generated new insights on the impact of mycotoxins on gut health, and on their interactions with drugs and with the pathogenesis of major infectious diseases in animals.
